Griffin and friends are triumphant in Leamington’s annual cup competition

Mixed triples team Bill Griffin, Bill Claridge and Norma Day won RLSBC’s annual Hooper Cup competition on Sunday.

The competition included 16 teams playing five games of five ends.

The winners and the runners up - Dave Turner, Fred Bannister and June Sumner - will receive their trophies at the club’s presentation evening on November 16.

WCC Staff entertained Pottertons at Myton to a mixed, friendly, triples match, winning by 28 shots.

Pam Bradshaw (26-5) and D Talbot (22-9) skipped the winning rinks for WCC.

Warwickshire Vice Presidents travelled to Abingdon where they could only manage to win on two rinks. Overall they lost 117 to 137 as George Palmer skipped John Slater, Les Boulton and Keith Francis to win by three shots while Don Darby, Brian Hunt and Paul Brown had the highest winning rink, winning by seven shots.

Leamington Ladies went down by one shot at Whitnash in a four rink triples game.

The visitors started well with Donna Kerr (27-9) skipping a winning rink but Joan Vince (20-8), M Davies (14-12) and Pam Coling (19-14) skipped wins for Whitnash to secure a 62-61 wine for the hosts.

Leamington were equally unlucky at Stratford where they went down 65-63.

This was despite a winning rink of 17-9 skipped by vice captain Jenny Wickens.

Lillington men had two rink wins to thank for their 86-83 triumph at home to Rugby.

Dennis Lee skipped Dave Goodman, Bill Fakey and Mike Sibbick to a 22-9 win while Keith Francis (23-16) was the other successful skip for the hosts.
