Khalsa miss out on a chance to close gap at the summit

Khalsa 2nds missed out on the chance to inflict the first defeat of the season on Midlands One leaders Nottingham University, conceding a last-minute goal at St Nicholas Park to draw 3-3.

Two goals from Savhan Singh Lall and one from Navdeep Singh Hayer put the home side into a 3-2 lead.

However, the students were awarded a short corner in the dying seconds and James Hodge stepped up to score his second of the game to maintain the visitors’ six-point advantage over Khalsa at the top of the table.

Khalsa 3rds drew 1-1 at neighbours Warwick in the East Midlands Premier to leave both teams firmly ensconced in mid table.

Khalsa started well and went a goal up courtesy of skipper Raghbir Singh Hayer.

However, Warwick quickly equalised in a match neither team deserved to lose.

Bhupinder Singh Sidhu was Khalsa’s man of the match.

Khalsa 4ths lost an entertaining game 7-5 to Stratford in South West Two of the Central League, with defensive errors proving costly.

Warwick Ladies 2nds bolstered their Warwickshire Division Two promotion hopes with a hard-fought 4-3 win over Stratford Ladies 2nds.

A Martha Hayes hat-trick looked to have put the game beyond Stratford, but they hit back to level and it needed a goal from player-of-the-match Aggie Poole to give Warwick all three points.

Warwick Ladies 4ths extended their unbeaten record to six games courtesy of a 5-3 victory over Sutton Coldfield 6ths.

Hannah Wishart touched home a goalbound shot from Tilly Worlidge to open the scoring before Sutton struck back to equalise.

A rasping shot from Sophie Lapage-Norris restored Warwick’s lead, only for the hosts to respond again to take the sides in at the break at 2-2.

Katie Davey and Hannah Wishart gave Warwick a two-goal cushion but it needed an Ella Worlidge strike to see off the stubborn challenge of Sutton Coldfield after they had pulled it back to 4-3.

Warwick Badgers went down 2-1 to Rugby and East Warwickshire Badgers.

Leamington Ladies 3rds enjoyed a 4-0 victory over Warwick on Monday night in their final match before the Christmas break.

Leamington started brightly and Emily Steer scored with a strike from the top of the D before Marianna Gallo doubled the away team’s advantage with a penalty corner strike before half-time.

Leamington maintained their grip on the game after the break with further goals from Laura O’Neill and captain Debbie Burton.
