MARTIAL ARTS: G Force host first event of Open Series

The first event in of this year’s G Force Open series was held at the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Centre last month. The tournament is run by Gordon Burcham of G Force Martial Arts in Rugby and is attended by class competitors from all around the UK.

G Force Fight Squad entered 15 fighters and came away with an impressive 11 first place trophies, three seconds and four thirds.

Newcomer Thomas Townsend stepped on the mats for the first time and won his novice section. The club are looking forward to seeing more from him soon.

Shannon Kennedy, Katelyn Bateman and Skye Bennett all came away with trophies from their sections and Dylan Wilson continued with his good form by taking first in points and third in continuous.

Liam Radburn took first place in his intermediate category and Camron Mac fought his way to third in his. Matty Crossin took third in continuous but bowed out of his points fight due to injury.

Jack Mills had a good day, taking first place in both his points and continuous categories. He definitely had his eye on the first place trophies which are almost as big as him!

Three Fight Squad fighters had the unfortunate task of competing against each other in what are probably the biggest and toughest sections of the day. All three put up great fights but in the final of both points and continuous, Bobby Brannen was victorious with Harry Waterhouse clinching a very good second spot. Stephen Wragg just missed out on a place this time. Bobby also competed in two other sections which he won, adding to his haul of trophies for this year.

The next G Force Open is on July 10, followed by the last in the series on September 18, where the fighters with the most accumulated points from all three tournaments will be presented with a championship belt.
