ISA Midlands Athletics Championships
At Birmingham’s Alexander Stadium in the Regional ISA Athletics Championships 21 Princethorpe College athletes won 21 events, ensuring their immediate qualification to the ISA Nationals to be held on June 29.
The unshakable spirit of the team began with the Year 7 qualifiers: Izzy Riley, Molly Minshull, Annaliesa Douglas, Ben Shipton and Connor Cooke who excelled across sprint, middle distance and field events with Cooke’s discus placing him third in his age group in the UK Power of 10 rankings. Cooke’s older brother, Callum, was one of six Year 9 boys who helped to piece together this College feel good story.
Out of fifteen events the Princethorpe boys won ten making their combined achievement the most stacked of the day. A sublime final relay effort reminded everyone supporting why they should fall back in love with athletics.
At senior level, College guardians of middle distance Eugenia Bessey and Hollie Moore pulled off a double act in the 800m and 1500m for the second year running whilst Matt Bach ran the show in the hurdles and triple jump, proving his dominance on both the track and field.
Princethorpe College Director of Sport Neil McCollin described the atmosphere of the occasion: “The stadium lends itself to the importance of the event and our athletes responded so well to the competition they were up against,” he said.
“We had winners in every single track and field event which is a fantastic story. Our pupils’ genuine camaraderie made it a real feel good experience for the whole team, not just those who came home with medals.”
