Great achievements at Draycote and Nottingham
The Ladies Running Group (LRG) as part of Rugby & Northampton AC is celebrating as many of its members complete their latest targets.
This all inclusive group caters for women of all age and ability providing coaching support to enable members to meet their personal running goals.
Along with 200 other entrants a large group of ladies took to the shores of Draycote water to run the Rotary Club 10K. For many it was their first ever 10k run and few anticipated the warmth that greeted them on what was assumed would be an Autumnal day.
The zig zag on the straight for the last couple of kilometres proved daunting to many runners as they effectively ran past the finish line still with 2 kilometres to go! However despite the heat, all completed the run, in times to be proud of and with smiles on their faces as they crossed the line.
The Mayor presented everyone with their finisher’s medals and both he and members of the Rotary Club commented on the strong turnout from the LRG. Coach Heather McClaren commented: “Many members of the group remained at the finish line until the last race entrant crossed, all sharing in their euphoria in completing the run regardless of time or position, in the true spirit of the Ladies Running Group.”
A record number of 23 members of the LRG travelled to Nottingham to take part in the Robin Hood Half Marathon on a day more suited to spectating that running 13.2 miles.
Along with 1000s of other like minded runners the ladies headed for the start line with feelings of excitement and trepidation in equal measures. A fairly flat course proved challenging still in the heat and with 50% of the ladies taking part in their first half marathon the travelling supporters waited expectantly for each sight of the runners around the course. All the training paid off as every lady ran the whole distance and all finished in euphoric spirits, a few tears of relief, tired legs/feet and many already planning their next targets.
The Ladies Running Group meets 9am Saturday mornings and is suitable for both intermediate and complete beginners to help you achieve your personal running goals.
