Rugby’s Liam Pearcey into final

A sunny Rugby BC hosted the Warwickshire Under 25s Singles as it progressed from the last 16 stage to the semi finals.

With injury ruling holder Dan Ward (Whitnash) from defending his crown the remaining fourteen entrants gathered for the Last 16 draw. Last year’s runner up Luke Moore (Bournville) fell at the first hurdle to Avenue Coventry’s Jordan Merrett 21-12, Craig Carter (Rugby) had a narrow 21-18 win over Luke Horne while the other main favourite, Tom Millership (Nuneaton), mad short work of Mark Smith (Avenue Leamington) beating him 21-7. Other Last 16 scores were Adam Smith 21-17 Callum Huckfield, Dan Jones 21-3 Mark Huckfield and Liam Pearcey 21-11 Harry Billingham. James Finch (Kings Heath) and Scott Ashby (Avenue Coventry) received byes into the quarter finals.

The surprise result of the quarter finals came from Avenue Coventry’s Jordan Merrett who came from behind to beat previous winner Craig Carter (Rugby) 21-16. His semi-final opponent would be Rugby’s Liam Pearcey who just edged past Dan Jones (Avenue Coventry) 21-18. Adam Smith (Avenue Leamington) and Tom Millership (Nuneaton) had slightly easier quarter final victories, Smith beating Scott Ashby 21-8, while Millership went through 21-11 against James Finch (Kings Heath).

In a thrilling encounter nothing could separate Tom Millership and Adam Smith as they put on a display of outstanding bowling. It was current Junior International Millership that gained the first final slot with a 21-20 victory in his last season as an Under 25. The other semi final proved to be a game too far for Jordan Merrett as a steady performance by Liam Pearcey saw him book his place in the Under 25s Final at Lillington on Sunday 4th August with a 21-11 win.
