Victory over Oxfordshire

Warwickshire Ladies proved their worth in the first Middle England League game of the season by beating Oxfordshire County, by 7 shots overall – 105-98. However, their four-rink win meant that they came away with 13 points to 4, a resounding start to this important challenge trophy.

Highest winning rink went to Elaine Taylor with Di Medhurst (both Stoke), Barbara Boscott (Rowheath) and Jacqui Cook (Lillington) who were level pegging with their opponents until the 10th end when a four shot win obviously spurred them to eventually win 27-8.

President Maureen Edwards (Rugby Thornfield) with her team – Karen Rice (Entaco), Sigrid Thomas (Rugby Thornfield) and Pat Bax (Rugby Ladies) - set off at a pace and they were 13-2 ahead at the 10th end, eventually winning 21-7.

Maureen Tims (Whitnash) with Margaret Andrew (Entaco), Di Wilkinson (Stoke) and Di Thurlbeck (Lillington) struggled to begin with and were 1-11 down at 6 ends, but twos on the 7th and 8th ends provided some encouragement and they started to keep the opposition at bay even taking 5 shots on the 16th end which brought them level, eventually finishing with a two shot lead 19-17.

Moira Parsons (Welford) with Patsy Tandy and Chris Cooke (both Southam) and Pat Moore (Three Spires) also struggled to score for the first few ends but after winning 2 shots on the 5th end they didn’t look back and refused to let their opponents have a look in for a further 9 ends eventually winning 17-15.

Janet Scott with Di Green (both Sherwood Park) with Brenda Carlton (Three Spires) and Helen Harris (Stoke) were level pegging most of the way but couldn’t quite hold out and eventually lost 11-15.

Liz Chedgzoy (Stratford) with Lilian Hope and Wendy Holloway (Welford) and Margaret Waterhouse (Wellesbourne) were not so lucky and after a tough afternoon lost 10-36.
