Rugby Bridge Club

On Tuesday, December 18, Rugby Bridge Club held its annual Christmas buffet. Bingo bridge was the order of the day and the winner at the end of an enjoyable evening was Chris Malthouse.

There was a break in the proceedings when Chris presented a cheque for over £500 to two representatives of the air ambulance. The money was raised at the club’s Julia Mills One Day Event earlier in the year.

Serious play resumed on Thursday when there was little between the top three pairs. On the very last hand Helen Foster and David Heron just pipped Sue Osborne and Wendy Pattinson, who were closely followed by Wendy Crees and Freddie Foster.

On Friday Marion and Peter Dixon took first place, Ron Finch and David Hicks were second, Val Wormleighton and Chris Malthouse, third.

# Rugby Bridge Club managed two sessions of bridge last week. On Wednesday at the Ex-Service Men’s Club Roger Ward and Freddie Foster were the run-away winners scoring 63% with Sue Osborne and Wendy Pattinson some way behind with 54%. They were closely followed by Jane Smith and Maria Smyth.

On Friday at Clifton the winners were David Owen and Ron Finch (63%), second , Graham Lightfoot and Lo Tolbut, third were Debbie Welch and John Drake.

# 2012 has been an exciting and eventful year for Rugby Bridge Club with more members, more sessions being played and most significantly becoming a member of the EBU.

Lessons for Beginners and Improvers commence on Saturday, January 5 and the programmes can be viewed on our website

Happy New Year to all our members, keep bridging.
