Championship decided

On Monday Evening the Founders Pairs Championship Trophy was presented to Don Prowse and Adrian Williams. The championship is scored on the position of regular partnerships on two Monday evenings a month. Don and Adrian average second place over their best eight appearances against the stronger members in the club and plenty of quality visitors. On Tuesday Afternoon of last week ten full tables played a single winner movement. Edwige Quick & Sue Robards led the field with 66.67 followed by Jim & Nicky Bainbridge with 62.22. Janet O’Connor & Pauline Batchelor were third with 60.28 followed by Roy Roberts & Laura Von Tucher with 59.72 and in fifth place were Zena Hutchinson & Val Richards with 58.61.

On Friday Evening eight teams of four played a Thurner Movement completing a match of three boards against every other team. Runaway winners were Peter & Vera Iredale and Craig Element & Dennis Angove on +76 IMPs. After a weak start Maxwell Kynoch & Malcolm Melrose and Brian Mawby & David Reed eventually scored +35 IMPs to get into second place. Battling with them and ending in third place were Edward & Ishar White and Janet O’Connor & Sue Robards scoring +20 IMPs.

The Porch Trophy was played at Kettering on Sunday. Twenty two pairs played forty eight boards in two sessions in a Swiss Pairs format. Five pairs made the journey from Rugby: Jim & Nicky Bainbridge finished seventh overall and picked up the prize for best result in the last round. David Reed & Mary Kerridge finished eleventh and earned the prize for top pair in the second session. Janet O’Connor & Sue Robards finished 16th equal and Daphne Rourke & Sue Mendes finished 20th. Peter Langley and Chris Malthouse of Rugby Bridge Club finished twelth.
