Ideal preparation for European Championships
World Ranking Event, Liptovsky Mikulas, Slovakia
Rugby’s canoe star Kimberley Woods was competing at the ICE world ranking event for Canoe Slalom at Liptovsky Mikulas, Slovakia.
The race took place on the artificial course on the left bank of the river Vah that feeds the course.
The GB team were using the event a training opportunity for the European championships taking place there in a month’s time
The event was held over two days with the heats for all classes being on the Saturday and the semi-finals and finals on the Sunday
Kimberley, along with her other GB team mates all qualified through to the semi-finals with ease on the Saturday without needing to take a second run.
Kimberley, along with her training partner Mallory Franklin qualified in both C1 and K1.
In the Semi-finals on the Sunday Kimberley was putting in a good run in the K1 until the last two gates from the end where she was very low on a breakout loosing several seconds and did not make the finals. In the C1 she put in a safe run to ensure making the finals in 3rd place.
In the C1 class final it was a close finish with Kimberley coming first with team mate Mallory just over a second behind in second place.
