Captain’s pairing clinch it for B team

On Thursday, the ladies played a friendly match against Nuneaton away. The uncertain weather caused concern as to whether this match could take place but the Nuneaton green staff managed to get the course ready for play. The format was changed from a better ball pairs to Greensome, which was a good decision to make. The result was a win for Nuneaton 3 & 1.

n At last there was some fine weather and sunshine on Saturday for the Ladies Scratch Team home match against Matlock. Rugby won the match 3½ to 1½.

n Rugby and Kenilworth played their second encounter of the season with the A team playing at home. The A team match was closely contested giving a result of a half. Kenilworth retained the ‘Golf Ball’.

n The B team fared better at Kenilworth with six pairs contesting the match in a ‘better ball’ format.

With five scores posted the match was tied at 2.5 points each, awaiting the result of the final pairings which featured the respective team captains.

The result of the final pairing was a 4 & 2 win for the Rugby pair of Martin Weaver & Steve Hibberd beating Kenilworth’s Patrick Fleming & Phillip Hoare, giving Rugby the overall win of 3.5 to 2.5.

n The Rugby Golf Club Bogey Cup competition held on Sunday was won by Mark Ridley with a +5 score.

Runner up was Paul Cluett with +4 and third Peter McIntosh +3.
