Captain’s team triumphant


This week at Rugby Golf Club was the turn of the Vice Captain to take on the Captain in the annual better ball match play competition.

Some 44 players took part with the competition being played over 18 holes with each hole being worth one point.

A total of 198 points were up for grabs and the Captain’s team, led by Bob James, was triumphant winning 100.5 points to the Vice Captain’s team, headed by Andy Walsh, achieving 97.5 points.

n The Ladies played a 4 ball better ball competition last Wednesday won by Judith Pegler and Linda Long with a net 66, second place was the pairing of Sue Jones and Debbie Harrad with a net 67 and third place was decided on a count back with Carol O’Neil and Sue Davis beating Julie Broom and Helen Fleming both a net 69.

n Also this weekend was the Ladies EWGA Medal which Judith Pegler won convincingly after shooting a gross 70 (net 64), bringing her in 7 shots clear of second placed Sue Jones with a net 71 leaving Sandra Brazier to take third spot with a net 72.

n The Men’s Medal on Sunday was won by Division one winner Paul Cluett with a net 65, 2nd place in division one was Matt Bell with a net 65 and third place was Brian McGovern with a net 68.

Division 2 was won by Ben Broadhurst (net 66), second was Keith Bale (net 67) and third was snatched by Mick Hamp from Richard Sands on a count back with both players scoring a net 69. Division three was won by Bob Graham (net 66) with Phil Croft taking second place from Sean Anderson on a count back with a net 68. Matt Bell won the best gross with a round of 68.

n The South Warwickshire Junior Golf League got off to a good start with Rugby Golf Club winning their match against Leamington 5.5 to 2.5.

The team of Alex Bagnall, Joe Crooks, Alex Clewett, Josh Broadhurst, Adam White and Jack Randle started their season proudly sporting their new team shirts with a good win, despite all having to give shots to the Leamington team.
