Rugby & Northampton AC celebrating success

Kirsty Goddard led the Under 15 Girls team from Rugby & Northampton to a magnificent silver medal in the Midland Cross Country Championships at Stafford Common. Goddard, the Northants County Champion, finished in a superb 5th place over the 4k course in 18 mins 38 secs.

Her team mate Ella Bromley also made the top ten when she recorded exactly 19 mins for 8th spot and completing the successful quartet were Lily Carmichael in 20th on 20.05 and Charlotte Murphy with 20.47 for 33rd position.

Ladies club champion Emily Waugh also helped the female athletes to another silver medal in the Under 20 race over 5k. She crossed the line in 6th place with a time of 21.11 and was backed up by brilliant performances from Sarah Bennett (15th in 23.04 ) and Clarissa Blake ( 17th in 23.41)

The Under 17 Men were just out of the medals in 4th spot, but George Goodwin had a great run to finish in 7th place on 18.00 for the 5k route. Joining him in the R&N team were Jack Murphy with 19.41 for 36th, Harry Hughes on 20.05 in 44th and Edward Wise ( 66th in 23.23 )

Zoey Garlick was the top athlete for the club in the Under 17 Womens event with her time of 24.12 placing her 21st over 5k and she was helped out by Genevieve Roberts in 36th spot on 25.58 and Emily Valentine just one place behind with 26.13. The trio finished 6th in the team race.

The under 13 Boys from R&N were headed by Matthew Rushton when he recorded 12.21 over a 3k course to finish 30th. Their team, which finished in 5th place, was completed by Finn Hutton (37th in 12.34 ), Ethan Kent-Whittaker (41st in 12.41) and Joe Musgrove ( 42nd in 12.44 )

The corresponding Girls race over the same distance saw Emer Wintsch cross the line in 39th spot on 13.13 with Poppy Carmichael seven seconds adrift in 44th. Georgia Willix recorded 13.49 in 72nd place and closing off the team, who finished 12th, was Olivia White ( 83rd in 14.19 ).

The Under 15 Boys failed to finish a team, but Haydn Arnall covered the 4k distance in 66th spot with 19.06.

The Senior Men had to negotiate a distance of 12k and Seb Palmer was timed at 37.32 in 37th place to lead home R&N and take the lead in the club championships. Neil Willsher had the best run of his life in these Championships and claimed 106th position in a time of 41.52. Making his debut was Paul Jolliffe who finished 12 seconds behind in 111th and running his 14th Midland Champs was Vince Carroll in 123rd spot on 42.44. Closing off the scoring six were Brian Summers (152nd in 44.18) and Max Chippington with a best placing of 196th in 46.45. This put them 14th in the team competition.

Jo Pulsford was the only Senior Lady taking part and her time for the 8k was 30.38 in 62nd place.
