Victory for Hollie

Princethorpe newcomer Hollie Moore has seized the cross country season by the horns by not only storming to victory in the English Schools’ qualifying round but also by winning the Inter-Area Cross Country Championships on October 11.

With perfect dry conditions and a relatively flat 2500 metre route at Stratford Upon Avon High School, 14-year-old Hollie shook up the large field of Year 8 and 9 runners to lead and win by a significant margin. The Rugby and Northampton AC athlete has really found her form early this season since joining Princethorpe in September.

Team mates Eugenia Bessey, 5th and Amicia Collet 8th will join Hollie and Year 7 Minor Boy Vianney Dubois, who came home in 8th place, at the prestigious Inter Counties to be held in Shropshire in November.

Team coach Mrs Brookes revelled in newcomer Hollie’s tenacious spirit: “She was flying and won by a good margin,” she said. “This was the same form shown in the recent English schools’ race where she claimed first place by at least 100 metres. She is an exciting addition to Princethorpe’s strong tradition of successful cross country running.”

Millie Higgins, Year 9, came 15th with Junior Boys Chris Shupe and Tom McCabe battling a gruelling 3600 metres coming 30th and 28th respectively.
