News from MI Racing and Rugby RCC

It was the Ladies section of the powerful; Team Jewson MI Racing Cycling team that made the headlines this weekend.

Triathlete Samantha Anderson, who is also a member of the Rugby Triathlon Club, riding only her second Open Time Trial ever, won the Wrekin Hilly event in Shropshire by 40 seconds from the previous winner.

It gives her a great start to the Midland Spoco series. Samantha, who has already been selected to represent Great Britain in the European Triathlon Championships in Israel in April, is using time trials as part of her training.

She followed Saturday’s ride with another excellent performance a few hours later, when she finished 4th in the Banbury Star Hill Time Trial, which included the descent and climb of Sunrising Road, on the Stratford-Banbury Road.

The event was held in terrible conditions, freezing rain, snow at times and a very strong wind, the worst conditions the organisers can remember.

On Sunday five riders from Rugby RCC rode the Bambury Star 25 mile hilly event.

The weather could not have been worse, as it started with rain then sleet and then snow. All the riders completed the course and were glad to get back to the finish.

Tim Hastie clocked 1-03.21secs; Peter Wright did 1-03.49; Phil Scott did 1-04.01; Matt Jones 1- 05.29; Mike Bloom 1-22.24.

Marina Bloom, back to riding in compettion after a long lay-off and riding for Born to Bike, finished in 1-11.29. Well done to all riders in those conditions.
