CYCLING: Great season for Mick Ives’ team

Roach records 13 cyclo-cross victories

Coventry based Elite Cycling Team Team Jewson-MIRacing-Polypipe have produced one of their most successful cyclo cross seasons ever.

Team Owner and Director, six times World Masters Cyclo Cross Champion Mick Ives, was quick to praise his riders for their commitment and dedication to the team and its supporters.

The team currently has two UCI World Masters Cyclo Cross Champions in Mick Ives and Phil Roach.

Phil Roach (Rugby) was the most successful rider of the team, winning 13 events, including the Welsh Championships and second in the LVRC National Championships.

Kirby Bennett (Hinckley) riding his first season with the team, recorded 12 victories including winning the LVRC Championships. He was second in the Midland Championships and third in the BC National Championships.

Peter Busby (Coventry) finished the season with 11 victories, including second in the Midland series, missing several events at the end of the season, due to injury.

John Gabriel (Hinckley) recorded nine wins including the Midland series and third in the Midland Championships.

Steve Knight had nine wins including the Midland series and third in the LVRC Championships.

Martine Verweij had five victories including the Midlands Championships and second in the BC National Championships.

Barrie Mitchell (Marton) recorded two wins plus second in LVRC National Championships and third in BC National Championships.

Carl Sturgeon had one win and was second in the Midland Championships.

And Mick Ives recorded one victory.

This made a total of 63 victories, an amazing tally.

The team are now preparing for the road, track and mountain bike season, with an 80-mile training ride on Sunday.

Mick Ives is organising a cycle jumble Sale at Baginton Village Hall on Friday evening, February 19. Doors open at 7pm.
