Victory in two tough cyclo cross events
Rugby member of Coventry based Team Jewson—M.I.Racing—Polypipe cycling team Phil Roach, was in fantastic form at the weekend, winning two very tough cyclo cross events, only hours apart.
Roach, who finished 4th in the 2012 UCI World Masters Cyclo Cross Championships at Kentucky, USA, but had last season cut short when he underwent a major operation on his leg - the results of an old football injury - looks as if he has really bounced back to his top form.
On Saturday afternoon 53 year old Phil won the Notts and Derby event at Derby, with a masterly display of riding, beating all but one of the 40+ Veteran riders who had over a minute start on him.
Then on Sunday morning he travelled to Top Barn Country Park near Worcester and won the race for riders 50 years and over, beating all the Juniors as well.
Next Sunday Phil will be competing in round 4 of the National Series Championships where he is currently lying in 3rd place overall. The Milton Keynes circuit is very tricky and should suit the Rugby rider down to the ground.
