The latest signing for 2013 for the Jewson-MI Racing-Thule cycle team is local time trial talent, Rugby’s Tim Hastie.

Tim is one of the fastest time trialists in the area, but will include some road racing into his programme in 2013, at the suggestion of team boss Mick Ives, who said: “Tim is an excellent climber, as well as a very fast time trialist, and I believe he can use both of these to good effect in road races. Tim is happy to give it a go, and will team up whenever possible with team mates like Ryan Ballard, and Mike Twelves. He’s currently training with these riders.”

The Coventry based Team held its first pre-season training ride just before Christmas, with 13 riders attending, doing a non-stop ride of 4 3/4 hours out into the Cotswolds and back, taking in several tough climbs. More training rides are planned early in the new year, stepping up the distance and speed,

The team then capped a brilliant 2012 season with a 1,2,3 in the Stratford CC cyclo-cross promotion at Henley in Arden on Sunday.

In-form rider, Darren Atkins rode away from all the opposition within yards of the start.

Following the recent heavy rain, the course was always going to be muddy, and so it proved, with large sections where riders found it quicker to run, rather than ride. This was Atkins’ 14th victory out of 16 races this season. Steve Knight was second and Mark James third.
