Wattbike indoor training sessions for the close season

Rugby RCC members are approaching their close-season training through a programme of indoor sessions on the highly acclaimed Wattbikes, located in a purpose-built studio at the Lutterworth Cycle Centre. Earlier this year the club invested in having two of its members trained as ABCC cycling coaches in order to design and lead these sessions and this is already proving popular, with 24 members taking part, spread over two one-hour sessions.

The Wattbike provides the ultimate in a scientific approach to training, with each machine able to simulate hill climbing as well as normal flat roads and provide instant feedback on pedalling technique, power output, cadence, speed, distance etc.

Ever the competitors, the sessions always end in a short race, ranging from 250 metres to 5,000 metres, where the coach can vary the conditions to represent a typical road event and a points system will identify an overall winner from the 12 events.

To give it that extra edge the riders are able to see everyone’s progress in real time projected onto a screen to follow where they are in the race. The programme has already proved so popular that the club has committed to running another 12 sessions in the new year. There are still a few places available and anyone interested should contact Craig McKee on 07763 860079.
