Cyclo cross event win for national champion

Team Jewson-MI Racing-Polypipe’s British Veteran Cyclo Cross Champion Phil Roach finished his 2013/14 cyclo cross season in brilliant style, with a four-minute victory at the Notts and Derby event at Draycott, near Derby.

Following heavy recent rain, the course was a mud bath, much to the liking of Roach, who just simply rode where his rivals couldn’t. He used the bike handling skills and strength that enabled him to win his last four races in a row, including the British Championship.

Team Director Mick Ives, said: “Phil will now enjoy a brief rest, after what has been a very hard and very successful season, and he will ride the odd mountain bike event through the summer, slowly preparing for the 2014/15 cyclo cross season, which begins in September. Phil’s main targets then will include the World Championships, where he finished 8th this year, after being gridded on the back row.

“Next year, as National Champion, he will have front row status at the European Championships and the British Championships and also hopes to lead his team to regain the National Team Championship as well. A busy season awaits.”
