Good start to the season for Mick Ives’ team

The 2014 Time Trial season is only a few weeks old and already Team Jewson—MI Racing—Polypipe are producing winners.

Rugby based team member Tim Hastie, was in brilliant form at the weekend winning the Stourbridge 11 mile, hilly time trial, in very windy conditions in 25mins 35secs, with a massive winning margin of over two minutes.

It follows some really tough training in recent weeks, only last Saturday Tim did a solo training ride of 118 miles averaging almost 20 mph, including the climb of Clee Hill and others in the Worcestershire Herefordshire area. His big target in a few weeks will be the Classic Beacon Mt time trial over 38 miles, where the team expects to enter several of its very best riders ,inc ladies.

On Saturday Team Jewson riders Greg Ashley (6th) and Russ Green won the Team award in the A5 Rangers hilly 15 mile time trial, and Ashley competed in the A5 Rangers 10 mile Time Trial on the Sunday, finishing 8th fastest and finishing 3rd overall for the two events.

Road Racer Mike Twelves, followed his last week’s winning ride with second place in the Fletch Waltone Road Race, near Lutterworth, Leicestershire,

Twelves was part of the winning breakaway group, that dominated the 50 mile race, his team mate John Stevenson (Warwick) was also part of the group and finished 4th.

In the race for riders 65 and over Marton’s Barrie Mitchell finished second.

At the Oulton Park Durathlon, Cheshire Samantha Anderson - the European and British Triathlon Champion - finished second in the ladies’ event and Chris Morris finished fourth in the men’s event – over 400 atheletes took part.

The event was the first qualifying event for the Great Britain selection’s for the 2014 World Durathlon Championships. Both of the teams riders have now qualified to represent Great Britain in this event, further success for the Coventry-based team.
