England’s home club triumph


RUGBY GC’s Home International was played on a very cold Saturday, March 31.

The four nations battled it out with England, captained by Duncan Snook, the worthy winners coming in with a score of 427 points. Wales retained the wooden spoon with 404 points.

The International Pairs was played on Sunday, which in contrast to the previous day, was lovely and sunny. Winners were Barry Peglar and his partner Josh Broadhurst with 47 points.

Rugby ladies hosted their first friendly match of the season against the ladies team from Whitefields Golf Club. The weather was glorious and ten players from each side turned out for this annual fixture, which was played in good spirits. On this occasion Whitefield won the match by 3 games to 2.

Rugby seniors, “TOFFS”, hosted their first match of the season on 26th March, against Overstone Park Golf Club. Rugby won the match by 6 games to 2.

Our annual competition, Champion of Champions, in remembrance of Peter Reynolds, a member who died in tragic circumstances at a young age, was played on March 17.

Players had to qualify for the competition by winning a major in the past year.

The winner of the claret jug was Steve Hamp, 2nd Paul Godding, 3rd Tim Croft.
