Captain v Vice Captain Match, Clifton Road

On a lovely spring afternoon and with a course in tremendous condition captain Mark Ridley accepted the traditional challenge from his vice captain Chris Moran.

Two teams of 12 drawn on the day did battle in an extremely close fought matchplay contest with several new members experiencing one of the club’s social internal matches for the first time.

In the lead match Mark Ridley and his partner Duncan Snook sprinted to an early lead against Chris Moran and his partner Steve Hamp, but were pegged back impressively - with a chip in birdie from the vice captain starting the fightback.

Ridley and Snook just held on to win on the 18th green after a hugely enjoyable match. The clubhouse waited with baited breath as the rest of the matches came in. The resultant tie was greeted with much banter - as it was agreed that the captain’s team retained the trophy as a result of last year’s triumph.
