Top ten finish in The Azores
New professional Lauren Taylor added to her winnings this week with a top ten place in the Azores Ladies’ Open.
The 19-year-old started well with a two-under-par round of 70 for second place. A 78 in the next round took her out of contention, but she came back strongly on the last day with another excellent 70.
Lauren finished tied ninth on +2, six shots off the winner, and picked up about £650.
The extra ranking points have lifted her to 18th in the LET Access Series Order of Merit.
The top five will automatically gain a place on the Ladies European Tour next season and the next 15 will skip pre-qualifying at Tour School in Morocco in December.
“I played well but was just annoyed with my second round,” said Lauren. “I just couldn’t do anything right that day and everything I tried didn’t work, which cost me a lot of money! It’s made me realise I have to practise more so I don’t lose shots to silly things.
“But I was really pleased to come back from a bad round with such a good one. The course wasn’t easy and it was very windy. You had to be very precise where you landed the ball on the green. If you were the wrong side of the pins you struggled to make two putts.”
Lauren has now played four LET Access Series tournaments, winning her first in Sweden while still an amateur.
Most of those above her in the rankings have played up to a dozen tournaments.
The remaining two are in Crete and Turkey.
