Coulthard Rose Bowl and Ladies’ Warwickshire League Trophy
Coulthard Rose Bowl
With damp and windy conditions over the weekend and early part of the week hampering the game the weather began to turn towards warmer temperatures and blue skies for the ladies’ Coulthard Rose Bowl (Handicaps 28-36) and Club Medal competitions on Wednesday. The Rose Bowl proved a close run match with first and second places coming in with 32pts. However, Marion Thorburn was triumphant winning on countback from Hazel Oag. The Club Medal was also a close encounter with Caroline Brown taking pole position from Judith Pegler, with 36pt and 35pts respectively.
Rugby Ladies Warwickshire League Trophy
Rugby Ladies played local rivals Whitefields on Saturday for their second fixture of this season’s campaign for the Warwickshire League Trophy. The match was away and on a warm sunny day the beautiful views of Draycote Water were much appreciated. Judith Pegler was first out and got the team off to a good start with a victory followed by Sue Jones who also won. Sandra Brazier lost her match but team captain Deb Harrad managed a win at the second extra hole. Linda Ollivant then lost which left the tie up in the air.
Fortunately the last two players Linda Long and Helen Fleming (who were both drafted in as reserves at the last minute) did the team proud by winning their matches giving Rugby a 5 to 3 victory. This was a great result considering the match was away and all the players were giving shots to their opponents.
This victory followed up a 6 to 1 win at the first match back in April. This was a home match against Stratford Upon Avon.
Rugby Golf Club Ladies Section
A team of Rugby Ladies travelled to Kenilworth for this year’s friendly match, where despite the poor weather, they enjoyed an afternoon of golf in pleasant company. The home team proved too strong for the visitors, resulting in a 3 games to 1 win.
