News from Rugby and Ansty
Last Sunday was Victory Challenge Cup Day at Rugby Golf Club.
On one of the best days of the year for golf, a record entry of 96 players, both ladies and gentlemen, competed for the cup which was presented by F.J. Hawkins Esq, Club President 1938-46, to commemorate victory in the World War 1939 to 1945.
Scoring was particularly good on the day with 36 players equalling or bettering the 68 standard scratch for the course.
Earlier in the day, Charlie Lloyd playing off 8 handicap and Simon Daysh, 9 handicap, were leading in the Clubhouse, both with exceptional scores of nett 61 and looking forward to their playoff to decide the winner of this major competition.
Unfortunately for them, Tim Watts, handicap 12, was drawn late in the field and playing like a true champion.
With a gross score of 69 (35-34), even with a double bogey on the final hole, Tim’s nett score of 57 was best of the day by far.
Final Results: 1st Tim Watts (69-12-57); 2nd equal Charlie Lloyd (69-8-61) and Simon Daysh (70-9-61); 4th Alexander Clewett (66-4-62).
