The Rugby Tenants’ Association is celebrating after receiving a £500 donation from the MARS Refuel Drink Fund.
It represents a group of 300 residents from the Admirals estate and with the money they aim to make it easy and inexpensive for young people and families to take part in a range of sports.
Sue Appleby, Chairperson at the RTAA says: “Our aim is to bring sports like netball, volleyball, cricket and football onto the Admirals estate so that residents can get active and join in without incurring travel expenses or worrying about costs. We particularly want to involve the estate’s young people who can take part in activities after school.
“We will be able to pay for 20 hours of coaching, as well as the publicity, refreshments and outreach we need in order to kick-start this sports programme.”
The fund was created to help people overcome the financial barriers and to play sport by offering £500 awards to teams and individuals.
Running until September 30 2011, it has £5,000 to donate each month.
Applications can be made online at www.marsrefuel.com for anything from equipment and travel costs, to improving training grounds and clubhouses.
