Grasstrack victory in Rugby for Cossar

Race fans flocked to Lawford Heath Lane on Sunday where Rugby’s very own British Masters Champion Mark Cossar and his passenger Carl Blyth cruised to victory in the 1,000cc Sidecar event.

Cossar, who has co-founded the Heart of England Motorcycle Club (HEMCC) to bring grasstrack racing to Rugby for the first time in over 30 years, was unbeaten in his three heats and final. There was also plenty of home support for Marton’s Pete Lloyd and Daventry’s Dan Crawford, plus Mark’s younger brother Tom Cossar, who was competing in the 500cc sidecars with Tim Dempsey.

As well as sidecars, the event also included 500cc and 250cc solos and some keenly contested junior racing. Funds raised on Sunday went to Warwickshire Northamptonshire Air Ambulance and the BBC Coventry and Warwickshire Myton Nurse Appeal.

Cossar, who the previous night had won the big floodlit grasstrack event at High Easter in Essex, said: “It’s still early days in terms of building the event up in Rugby but we had a very encouraging turn out today, so thanks to everyone who came along and to all the many people who worked so hard to put the day together.”
