England reach Over 50s final in Rotterdam

Paul Nicholson, Assistant Head at Bilton Grange, did slightly better than the England football squad in their world cup, by reaching the World Cup Hockey Final that took place during June at Rotterdam Hockey Club.

Playing for the England Masters O50s, the team qualified first in their group, and scored 30 goals, conceding just two. Of these 30 goals Paul scored twice, both against Egypt.

In the quarter-final against Spain, the team won 5-1, which took them through to the semi-final against Australia, which they won 2-0.

The final was against Germany, and in a tightly fought match, the team unfortunately lost 1-0.

The ‘home team’ back at Bilton Grange followed Paul’s progress intently, and there was great interest and support as the impressive scores came in. What other school can boast a World Cup finalist in staff meetings!

Summing it up, Mr Nicholson said: “This truly was the experience of a life-time.”
