REWHC Men’s 2nd XI 3

Rugby went 1-0 up after a great cross from Wokka put it on a plate for 18th birthday boy Philip Dickinson. Slightly harshly they found themselves 3-1 down with 20 minutes to go. Following an amazing come back Rugby levelled at 3-3, man of the match Phil hitting his hat-trick with Wokka again playing another pass he could not fail to score from.

Rugby then managed to give a quick goal away and then a fifth, chasing the game. Great comeback though and good to see the team really progressing. The 2nds take on West Bridgford next week.

Loughborough Students 7

REWHC Men’s 3rd XI 4

Mens 3s faced tough opposition in the form of Loughborough Students.

In the first half tough opposition Loughborough scored again and again. It looked to be a long afternoon but on the stroke of half time Rugby discovered the opposition had a D and treated themselves to a short corner, Gaz Unett beating the keeper and Ryan Hibberd scoring.

In the second half Loughborough added another, but so did Rugby through a Browne short corner. The home side scored again, but so did Giles Morrison and Kristian Browne, with a penalty stroke. Tom Webb was man of the match for all his saves.

Not a bad result away to the students.

REWHC Men’s 4th XI 1

Notts Uni 4

A very poor start and inability to hold onto the ball led to being four goals down after 15 minutes. Rugby regrouped to hold firm for the rest of the half and create some chances of their own. A fantastic early second-half goal by Matt Rush, crashing the ball into the top corner from a tight angle, gave Rugby a way back into the game.

Despite taking control of the game from that point on they were unable to score any more. The performance gives the 4ths hope of getting wins in their last two games before Christmas. Man of the match: Richard Cook.

REWHC Men’s 5th XI 4

Leek 2

The Men’s 5s banked three points beating Leek 5ths at home. Goals in the first-half from Rich, Jack and Craig took Rugby into a 3-0 lead thanks to some very quick thinking from Mattie. Leek came back in the second half despite Rugby going 4-0 up from another Craig penalty-corner strike, but Rugby held on and played out the win. Man of the Match: Chris.

REWHC Men’s 7th XI 2 v 4 Coalville

REWHC Ladies 1st XI 7

Sutton Coldfield 4th XI 0

Rugby dominated with some brilliant passing throughout the team, patiently waiting for opportunities. The first goal was tactfully worked between Emma Allan, up to Nicki to beat the keeper, followed by an impressive goal from Izzy Powell. The third came from a short corner, finishing the first half with style. Solid defending from Belinda and Rachel, and some well-worked runs from Izzy Bower and Laura made the match extremely hard-work for the opposition.

Sutton Coldfield responded well and came out fighting, however, Rugby put into play some wonderful recycling, much to the pleasure of Coach Sue Sutton and goalkeeper Emma O, who had a quiet game. Sally, Leanne, Planty and Amber continued to pressure the opposition, enabling Izzy P to score her second. Another well-timed feed from Charlie Woolliscroft allowed Nicky to score her fourth, and Lil scored the last with an all-mighty strike. Ubiquitous team work and passing skills were key to this victory.

REWHC Ladies 2nd XI 0

Warwick 4

Berkswell & Balsall 4

REWHC Ladies 3rd XI 1

After a later start than planned and hanging around for a while, Rugby started off well, with some good pass and moves. Unfortunately Rugby gave away two easy goals but Julia pulled one back before the break. The second half saw Berks score another with Rugby pressing and could have scored a few, with a goal-line opportunity missed.

A harsh penalty flick was awarded to Berks in the last minute resulting in the final score of 4-1. Player of the match was Hannah.
