East Warwickshire HC

Men’s 1st XI 6

Northampton Saints 5

Sponsored by Webb Ellis

Rugby came out victors in this 11-goal thriller. Now in sixth place in the league, this win will give Rugby massive confidence and satisfaction at beating local rivals and third place team Saints.

Olton and West

Warwickshire 1

REWHC Men’s 2nd XI 1

Sponsored by FEVER ltd

A very close game in which Rugby had the better of the chances. Paul Ryan got the goal following a right post deflection from a short corner.

REWHC Men’s 3rd XI 0

Edgbaston HC 0

Sponsored by Cottons Chartered Accountants

This was a well fought game and Rugby were dominant in the second half in particular.

A fantastic effort from all, but sadly they couldn’t convert any of the many chances and short corners. The point still gives them hope of staying safe this season.

Nottingham Uni 2

REWHC Men’s 4th XI 2

Sponsored by Bowie Lockwood

To draw 2-2 away to the league leaders designate and be disappointed not to win shows where the 4s are at.

Once again it was the lack of finishing prowess that allowed a victory to slip from their grasp in a game they could and should have won.

REWHC Men’s 5th XI 2

Beeston HC 1

Sponsored by Vicarage Farm

A cagey first half was turned around after the break when Beeston scored. It instigated a Rugby come back, which saw them score two goals towards the end for the win.

The first goal was a deflection from Jonny Bowering following an excellent ball in from Alex Hopkins. Hoppo then hit the winner with a well taken reverse stick sweep from the top of the D.

A really good performance with the result finally reflecting the performance.

REWHC Men’s 7th XI 1

West Bridgford 3

Sponsored by Brethertons LLP – solicitors

The 7’s lost at home to the league leaders in a hard fought encounter, with a well-taken goal from Ryan Hibberd, but Rugby could have got more. MOM went to Ryan and Daniel Heathcote. Keith Slaughter is to be commended for drag dribbling skills.

REWHC Ladies 1st XI 2

Nuneaton 4

Sponsored by The National Motorcycle Museum, Windmill Village and he Manor Hotel.

It was a tough game for the ladies’ 1s. Both goals came from Amber Meikle and MOM went to Belinda Stephens.

REWHC Ladies 2nd XI 1

Warwick HC 5

Sponsored by Johns Gilbert & Frankton

REWHC Ladies 3rd XI 0

Leamington 2

Sponsored by Crane Electronics

Rugby were slow to start and allowed Leamington to get their passing and pressing game going. Rugby didn’t push up enough allowing Leamington time and space to work and after many attempts on goal a fine move across the pitch saw the goalkeeper wrong footed for the first.

Rugby started to get it together and managed to create a couple of chances themselves. This gave Rugby a bit more confidence and they started to move the ball quickly. Unfortunately Rugby gave the ball away and this allowed Leamington to get their second. After a good team talk at half time Rugby came out in a more purposeful mood and created many good passing moves but not the final pass or shot on goal.

Rugby kept pushing forward and a brilliant move started on Rugby’s 25 saw a few quick passes and a slotted ball into the path of Jackie Adlum saw her round the keeper and hit the post. The follow up just catching her foot before crossing the line. Rugby’s second half performance deserved more. MOM - Rachel Madigan.

REWHC Badgers 0

Welford Badgers 1

Sponsored by Astute Services and PAB Coventry

It took a while for Rugby to settle, with Welford having most of the possession. Eventually the away team managed to puncture the strong defence of Manion, Bucknall, Turton and debutant keeper Harry for 1-0 at half time.

The second half started with the tables tipping in Rugby’s favour. Forwards Johnson and Tarling made chances for the midfield to work an opening. Rugby pounded the defence, constantly earning a handful of short corners which they failed to convert. The final score did not reflect the good determined performance of the young side.
