Rugby & East Warwickshire 1st v Harbone

Great start to Premier season for 1st XI

Mens 1st XI Midlands Premier League

REWHC Men’s 1st XI 3 v 1 Harborne

Sponsored by Webb Ellis

The first league home match proved to be another valuable three points, with a 100% record to start the season. Rugby looked solid with much of the early possession and that led to a penalty corner which Szymon Oszyjczyk converted with a low drag flick. As Rugby continued to dominate, chances were missed from open play Ben Kluth on his reverse stick and three more penalty corners not converted. Nearer half time an aerial expertly taken down by Henry Harrison led to a string of solid passes and dually converted with a top deflection by Tom Morgan.

Rugby started the second half poorly with simple missed passes leading to a high press by Harborne. A really obvious foot was missed by the umpire and led to a poor goal conceded by Rugby, but felt quite unfairly treated in the build up. As the game settled again it began to open up but Rugby couldn’t convert more penalty corner opportunities. The third goal and cushion came from scrappy play in the D and Szymon Oszyjczyk passed into an open net.

Rugby are joint top of the table with Bournville and North Stafford who have also won their opening two games.

Away to Edgbaston next week on the University water based, looking to keep the superb run of form going. Edgbaston have yet to get off the mark in the table.
