Rugby with all to play for at half way stage of season
West Bridgford 2
REWHC Men’s 1st XI 3
Coming off the back of a great victory over Lichfield a week prior, Rugby set themselves up to take three points and go into the break comfortably in the top four. West Bridgford having been relegated from national league last season are always tough opponents in their ‘cage’ of an astro turf.
But Rugby were in high spirits and started the game dominantly winning early penalty corners. On the third, a misplaced injection meant Szymon oszyjczyk adjusted his feet to smash the back board with a strike. Then a stroke was awarded for a foot on the line which Szymon converted for his second.
The dominance continued with Bridgford receiving a yellow for constant verbal towards the umpire. Szymon popped up for his hat-trick before half time. But Bridford came back strongly and scored an early goal.
It was really backs to the wall for most of the second half for Rugby with only two real clear chances to talk about. A stroke was given for a body on the line, Munich got Bridgford to within a goal but Rugby held on to a fantastic three points.
At the halfway point of the season, there are six points separating five teams. Rugby in the middle of the pack have it all to play for in January.
