THREE top international coaches in rugby, netball and hockey are to train youngsters from across the UK at Rugby School’s first ever summer Sports Academies.

Open to all, the four-day coaching sessions star former England rugby player, Harry Ellis, Commonwealth Games bronze medallist netball player, Geva Mentor, and England hockey coach Jerome Goudie, who has played for both England and Great Britain.

The residential courses, which offer accommodation in the school boarding houses, will give boys and girls the chance to be coached at the highest level within outstanding sporting facilities.

The head coaches, supported by teams of experienced professionals, will deliver innovative coaching designed to improve youngsters’ skills and techniques across the three sports.

The top quality tuition, aimed at 10-15-year-olds, will feature advice on how to become a top player, theory sessions including DVD analysis, as well as a varied social programme.

Rugby star Harry Ellis is devoting his time and expertise free of charge in return for a donation to The Matt Hampson Foundation by Rugby School Enterprises, the commercial arm of the school and organisers of the academies. His coaching sessions will be based on The Close, giving exclusive access to this living monument to the origins of rugby football.

He said: “I’m delighted to be coaching at a prestigious school such as Rugby and

looking forward to passing my knowledge of the game onto budding players of the future, whilst also helping out The Matt Hampson Foundation - a charity very close to rugby players’ hearts.

Sandra McPherson, commercial manager of Rugby School Enterprises, added: “Youngsters who join our new sports academies can take full advantage of the school’s unrivalled facilities set in the most magnificent grounds.

“We have a unique sporting heritage making it an inspirational place for boys and girls to benefit from the highest level coaching in their chosen sport and we look forward to giving them a fantastic experience.”
