Last Wednesday Rugby Ladies played in a 3-ball Texas Scramble in aid of the Lady Captain’s Charity Fund.
The competition was won by Judith Pegler, Claire Scott and Sheila Wragg and donations to the charities raised £86.50.
As the competition season now draws to a close, the ladies’ section is looking to the coming weeks to give a final boost to the Lady Captain’s charity year and is holding a Christmas Bazaar on Wednesday, November 7 from 3.30 to 6pm in the clubhouse on Clifton Road.
As well as stalls selling seasonal gifts, there will be lots going on including a ‘Name the Teddy Bear’ and tombola stall. Admission is free and all are welcome.
n Saturday was the last Ladies EWGA Medal of 2012. Played on a bright sunny day but in challenging windy conditions, the competition was won by Sandra Brazier with a net 72, with Judith Pegler in 2nd place with a net 76.
n On Monday the ladies played their final friendly fixture against Delapre away.
Eight ladies on each team played better ball format, with the result a win for the home side 2½-1½.
n On Wednesday, October 17 the Rugby Ladies played the Rene Almey Foursomes combined with the Daily Mail Foursomes qualifying competition.
This was rescheduled from August when the competition was abandoned because of torrential rain but this time the sun shone and the playing conditions were much better. The winners of the Rene Almey Trophy this year were Deb Harrad and Claire Scott with a net 74 with Di Reid and Helen Webb runners up with a net 78.5.
Deb and Claire also now qualify to play in the area knockout stage of the Daily Mail Foursomes in 2013.
n Saturday, October 20 was the Captain v Lady Captain’s match.
This is an annual match play fixture, normally played at the beginning of the season, where the Captain fields a team to play against the Lady Captain’s team.
The ‘rules’ are negotiated each year between the two Captains! More men signed up to this fixture than ladies so, to balance the teams, the Lady Captain ‘borrowed’ two men for the day.
They played off the ladies tee and truly entered into the spirit of the competition. The weather was fine and the results of the games were eagerly awaited as some were only decided on the 18th hole.
It was a good day and everyone enjoyed it.
The final result was an honourable draw 3½ : 3½. The ladies get to retain the trophy as they won last year.
