FANTASTIC young golfer Lauren Taylor has been selected for the European team for the PING Junior Solheim Cup in Ireland from September 20-21.
It is an incredible honour for Lauren, 16, who will join the best players from all over the continent to take on the USA.
It’s the first time England has had two representatives in the event, the other being Charley Hull, 15.
Back in June Lauren became the youngest ever winner of the women’s British amateur championship. Since then she has played in the Ricoh Women’s British Open, helped England win the silver medal at the European girls’ team championship, won the Dutch Riverwoods girls’ open – and a place in next year’s LET Dutch Open – and become the first girl to win the annual Ian Poulter junior invitational.
Her British title also enabled her to compete in the US Women’s Amateur Championship at Rhode Island last month. Lauren is currently 33rd in the women’s world amateur rankings.
Her very busy summer continues with playing for England in the Home Internations and she has also been invited to the Royal Liverpool Golf Club, Hoylake, for the Duke of York Young Champions trophy. It is for under 18s from all over the world who have won major tournaments.
The Junior Solheim Cup will be played at Knightsbrook Hotel Spa & Golf Resort in Co. Meath before the Solheim Cup for the top amateur women at Killeen Castle, Ireland, from September 23-25.
