Magnificent haul of medals for Masters

The 2012 Midland Masters Athletic Championships took place on Sunday, June 10 at Nuneaton and on a remarkably warm dry day.

A number of Rugby & Northampton AC athletes competed for honours in the various age categories and took many of the medals on offer.

Ellena Ruddock (W35) set a new championship record in the W35 100m in a time of 12.7s and also beating her own 200m record by over a second 25.4s taking gold in both events.

Sally Hine (W60) took silver in the 80m Hurdles in 16.6s, gold 100m in 15.9s, gold 200m in 34.5s, gold 300m Hurdles in 62.8s which smashed the midland record, and silver in Long Jump with 3.01m

Leslie Willis (W50) took gold in the 100m in 14.7s, gold in the 80m Hurdles in 14.8s matching the championship record held since 1996, gold in 300m Hurdles in 55.7s, gold in 200m in 31.0s and gold in the 400m in 71.6s

Jean Fail (W60) took gold in the 80m Hurdles in 15.4s equally her own record, gold in the Long Jump with 3.81m taking a new championship record and gold in Javelin with 21.74m.

Angela Copson (W65) took gold in the 800m in 2-50.9s marginally missing out on the British record, gold in 1500m in 5-40.3s which was a new British record and gold in 400m in 78.3s

Debbie Murch (W50) took a well deserved bronze in the 100m in 15.8s , gold in the Hammer 32.65m, gold in the Shot Putt with 9.29m, silver in the Javelin with 21.53m and silver in the Discus 20.55m.

John Evans (M75) took silver in the 100m in 16.8s, silver in the Triple Jump with 7.32m and bronze in Long Jump with 3.33m

Kevin Murch (M50) set a new pb in the Hammer throwing 36.75m to finish 5th and took gold in the Javelin with a throw of 55.81m

John Moreland (M50) took gold in the Discus with 45.41m, bronze in the Shot Putt with 11.29m and 4th in the Hammer with 38.86m.

Gary Wallace (M40) took gold in the 800m with a new personal best time of 2-06.8s

Richard Bowers (M40) took silver in the 200m in 25.0s and gold in the 400m in 55.40s

John Love (M70) took gold in Discus with 24.84m, silver in Shot Putt with 8.03m and silver in Javelin with 17.63m
