Sunday September 9 saw the Fuller Cup and the September Medal being played at Rugby Golf Club.
Congratulations go to Jack Malone who not only won the Fuller Cup but also achieved victory in the September Medal. Coming in second and third in the Fuller Cup were John Amer and Mark Ridley whilst in the September Medal Dave Lauder finished second with a net 65 and Warren Elliot was third with a net 67.
Wednesday saw our ladies competing in the EWGA Medal and September Pendant. With the ground waterlogged in places from heavy rain overnight the going was not ideal and scoring reflected this. Sheila Wragg came in winner with net 74 on count back from Jean Lewin.
Club captain Bob James held his Charity Texas Scramble on Sunday (September 16).
Eighteen teams of four took part in the competition. With the course in excellent condition and weather set to fair we were assured of some good scores.
The event was won by Paul Godding, Ady Stock, Jonathan Watts and Martyn Walker.
Combining entry fees, sponsorship and raffle, £840 was raised on the day for the Air Ambulance. Captain Bob James would like to thank all competitors and sponsors for their support.
A popular annual event in the calendar is the ladies’ match against the seniors, which was held on Thursday September 13 and played as a Greensome Stableford competition with a difference.
The ladies negotiate two extra shots for the course and this year they had the opportunity for three “gruesomes” where they chose which tee shot the men played.
The sun shone and six pairs competed on each side. Unfortunately, even with the shots advantage, the ladies’ team lost by 2:4 allowing the seniors to retain the TOFFS Trophy for another year.
