Patrick Carter’s students succeed in first venture into international scene

THREE talented local students have returned from the European Taekwondo Championships in Davos, Switzerland, with an array of medals.

The European event attracts around 1,500 competitors from 20 countries and has a dedicated competition where upcoming fighters can compete on the international stage.

Anjali Neelakantan got gold in the girls’ heavy weight sparring, silver in pattern and continuous sparring black belt girls, and bronze in the TAG team sparring, for a hat-trick of medals.

Steve Morris came third in men’s veterans heavy weight sparring and his daughter Caitlin Morris came fourth in sparring and patterns.

Patrick Carter said: “As a coach, it is really gratifying to see them all growing in confidence with every tournament they enter and this is mirrored in the success they are now enjoying with their first venture into the international scene.”
