Competiton staged at Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Centre
The WMO European Championships were held at the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Centre earlier this month and 11 fighters from G Force Fight Squad took to the mats.
Shannon Kennedy and mother and daughter team Sam Cullen and Skye Bennett all became European champions in their sections. Dylan Wilson and Liam Radburn made the difficult step up from their usual division with Liam taking bronze and Dylan fighting well. Katelyn Bateman gave her all against some very strong girls and was awarded with two bronze medals for her efforts. Pierce Manning improved on recent performances to take bronze and Jack Mills also fought well to take bronze in his section.
Seven-year-old Luke Townsend had to dig really deep to step on the mats this time, but won the European title and gained in confidence. The club are expecting big things from him in the future.
Bobby Brannen had some fantastic fights in, as always, difficult sections, but came away with one gold, two silver and one bronze.
But the fighter who deserves a special mention is Stephen Wragg. Time and time again he competes not only against his team mate Bobby, but also some of the best fighters out there. He has hard fights and some bad decisions have been made against him but never once does he moan, he trains like a Trojan and keeps the rest of the team entertained in his own unique way. The magic is just around the corner for him and everyone looks forward to seeing it unfurl.
