Hannah Dudley, Rugby Swimming Club’s Head Synchro Coach, received further endorsement of her abilities from the Amateur Swimming Association when scooping the ASA West Midlands Region Skill Development Coach of the Year for 2011.

The award recognises the achievements of a coach working to develop emerging and young performers from within swimming.

Hannah, also Rugby Borough Council’s Sports Coach of the Year, has been presiding over a period of unprecedented success for Rugby with her swimmers earning international, national, regional and novice honours this year.

Hannah, a successful swimmer in her own right, has been a member of Rugby Swimming Club for nearly 20 years and transferred her energy to coaching six years ago.

Hannah spends nine hours each week ‘officially’ coaching Rugby Synchro, spread across five separate days - including 7am starts on both Saturdays and Sundays.

Hannah’s commitment is all year round with the club operating 50 weeks of the year. In reality, this translates into many more hours as, on top of that commitment, Hannah applies significant hours to choreographing and perfecting routines as Synchro is a precise sport where precise movements and timing can make a big difference.

Hannah can also be found at weekends regularly coaching, officiating and judging at numerous competitions ranging from Novice Events to National Championships.

All this runs alongside Hannah’s full-time professional role as a qualified physiotherapist for the NHS.

Rugby’s Synchro Section currently has 66 members aged from 7 to nearly 60! Epitomising what grassroots sport is all about, Hannah is fiercely passionate and totally dedicated.

Rugby is proud of its coach, whose talent means they can compete with the largest synchro clubs in the country, most of which are supported through a network of full-time coaches.

Hannah’s focus now turns to next week’s UK National Age Group competition to be held in Gloucester - any success at the country’s premier junior event would cap an already great year for the Rugby Coach.
