Moorcroft and GB athletes to mark track reopening

A group of international athletes will be celebrating the official re-opening of Rugby’s athletics track, led by former Olympian and world record holder David Moorcroft.

The track has been extensively refurbished by Rugby Borough Council, in partnership with the Rugby and Northampton Athletics Club and the Cemex Benevolent Fund.

To mark the start of the 2011 track season and the new facilities, the club and the council are hosting a public opening event on Saturday at the track which next to the Ken Marriott Leisure Centre.

At 1pm David Moorcroft will perform the official opening. He is the 2012 West Midlands Ambassador and former 5000 metres world record holder.

The club has invited club athletes past and present, schools and community groups to take part in a series of events throughout the afternoon.
