First race 7.30pm tonight (Friday) at Brandon

Despite the unavailability of his regular passenger, Carl Blyth, Rugby’s Mark Cossar says he still hopes to win tonight, (Friday’s) Sidecar Speedway Shootout in front of his home crowd at Brandon.

Cossar’s passenger does, admittedly, have good reason for his absence, as he’s busy getting married in Rhodes, which was arranged long before the Shootout date was chosen.

Having won three of his four British Masters Grasstrack titles with Carl Blyth, Cossar knows just what a big asset his regular passenger is, but has lined up a more than capable replacement in the shape of Liam Brown, who just happens to be one half of the reigning British Masters crew.

“Liam has been a fierce but friendly rival,” said Cossar, but we’re joining forces for the Shootout. The pressure is on, but hopefully we’ll gel and make the grand final.”

Together with three other crews, Cossar took part in a sidecar speedway demo during last Friday’s Coventry Bees clash with Kings Lynn.

On the second lap, his passenger Gareth Williams lost his grip and was sent tumbling into the air fence, thankfully unscathed.

On Friday, gates open at 6pm. Parade at 7.15pm. First race 7.30pm. 27 races, including 500cc and reserves. £10 for adults, free for under 16s.
