Sidecar speedway star ready to take on world’s best again in Australia
Rugby’s Mark Cossar is heading back to Australia at the end of the month to do battle in the prestigious three-round Oceania Sidecar Speedway Championship.
The 28-year-old was a massive hit Down Under last year when he finished third overall in the Sidecar Grand Slam Series, reaching all seven finals and becoming the first rider from outside Australia to win an event round.
“This return trip has all come about very quickly, but of course I’m going to give it my best”, said Cossar. “Thanks to Mark Mitchell in Adelaide Hills, I have a bike over there and a few days when I arrive to build an engine. I’m really looking forward to racing again against the very best riders in the world.”
Interestingly, the Rugby ace will be partnered in Australia by one of his fiercest rivals, Liam Brown from Yorkshire, who was passenger with Rod Winterburn when the duo pipped Cossar and Carl Blyth to the 2014 British Masters title.
Across three states, the Oceania title will be contested as follows:
Round 1:Saturday, February 7 at Gillman Speedway, Adelaide, South Australia
Round 2: Wednesday, February 11 at Olympic Park Speedway, Mildura, Victoria
Round 3: Saturday, February 14 at Loxford Park Speedway, Kurri Kurri, New South Wales
