National medals for masters

It was the turn of Rugby Swimming Club’s Synchro Masters to excel last weekend.

Competing in the National Masters Competition at Telford, Rugby returned home with two medals to reflect a hard and enjoyable year of training.

In the age group Duets, the Rugby pairing of Kay Ridler and Joyce Williams shone through both their routines. Performing with style and grace to Queen and the Blues Brothers, the Duet secured a fantastic silver medal, a great reward for their hard work and dedication throughout the season.

Swimming in her first National Masters, Emily Firth encountered strong opposition in the ultra-competitive 20-29 years solo event. Competing against ‘recently retired’ GB seniors, the elegant and powerful Rugby swimmer looked far from out of place.

Lying a superb second after the Technical routines, Emily produced another high-quality Free routine to claim a well-deserved and hard-earned Bronze medal - a performance which will surely delay talk of retirement for a further twelve months.

All three Rugby swimmers were proud to collect their medals - an occasion which was made more special with the attendance of long-serving, former Coach, Ron Butler.
