Newbold ready to restart

Newbold RFC’s youth section enjoyed a hugely successful 2011-2012 season - so much so they reckon their youngsters are fast becoming the envy of every club in Warwickshire.

The Colts had a remarkable season, being the best U19 side for decades at Newbold. They were crowned champions of the Warwickshire Colts Merit League, won the Warkwickshire Colts Sevens at NRFC and just missed out on the final of the Bob Coward Cup, bowing out in the semi-final by the narrowest of margins to closest rivals Nuneaton.

Most of the Colts were given game time in the senior sides over the course of the season with several becoming regular additions in the first XV and making valuable contributions to their successful season.

The Colts are looking to further strengthen their squad. Please turn up on a Wednesday evening at 7pm for training if you’re interested, or contact the club for more information.

Last year’s U15 squad ended up winning half of their fixtures overall and progressing strongly with only two defeats in the second half of the season, which culminated in a great day out at Twickenham for the England v Barbarians game. This U16s squad for the coming season is a great bunch, with representatives from all of the schools in the town.

Under the guidance of coaches Martin Green and Martin Reed, this new crop of youth players will continue their individual and team development. Any players who would like to be part of the next Newbold success story will be made very welcome.

Newbold RFC are planning to run teams this coming season from U14 upwards and are already running youth sessions on Wednesday evenings (7pm).

Please turn up and join in if you want to see what it is like to play Rugby at our friendly but ambitious club. Contact the club if you would like to know more. Details online at
