Rugby Swimming Club’s Synchro section took a young squad to compete in the West Midlands Regional Novice Competition at Walsall last weekend.

For many of Rugby’s swimmers this was their first experience of competition in what will hopefully prove to be the start of long and successful associations with the club.

As is becoming the norm within these competitions, Rugby’s swimmers swam beyond expectations to secure a number of medals.

A bronze medal was the reward for Rugby’s 12 years and under Combination team of Naimh Walden, Molly Port, Molly Saunders, Annabelle Boulton, Elise Bowler-Smith, Isobel Ogg, Eleanor Garrard and Olivia Broomhead.

It was also bronze for Hannah Linden in the 12 years and under Skill Level 1 Figures competition.

Silver medals followed for Holly Tonks and Emily Old in the Figures events for their respective Skill Level 1 age brackets. However, the best was still to come with Holly Tonks and Hannah Linden striking gold in the 12 years and under Skill Level 1 Duet - a fantastic achievement for the young pairing.

Also competing for Rugby at Walsall were Frances Hu, Emilia Birtles, Emma Southall, Danielle Medgett and Elise Richardson with special mention going to Rugby’s second entrant in the 12 years and under Combination team event, who were competing for the first time: Elise Richardson, Danielle Medgett, Lorna Herron, Cerys Herapath, Georgia Lindsay, Ariane Sargent, Charlotte Twist, Georgina Kirton, Maisie Grinter, Jasmine Brown and Sophie Clarke.

A special mention to all the travelling support which helped to make a special day for the girls. Also, thanks to all the officials from Rugby that contributed to the smooth running of the event.
