England Touch, Clonmel Cup semi and County Cup final
Newbold on Avon RFC have a big weekend ahead of them with three significant events involving the club.
After narrowly missing out on a play-off spot to Derby in the final weeks of the season for promotion into National 3, this weekend adds to the evidence that ‘the Bold’ is forging ahead to put Rugby town back on the map in the rugby world.
Saturday morning sees Parkfield Road playing host to England Touch with five squads preparing for the Euro Finals in Jersey and Euro U18s in Holland this summer. With four Newbold players in the England squads it will be a proud day for the already proud club. Training starts at 10am and concludes at 2pm with a play-off match between the Mixed U18s and Men’s Over 45s. The result may not be as obvious as it would first appear.
As soon as the England Training Camp closes the Newbold 2nds will be taking the field at 3pm to play host to Daventry RFC in the Semi Final of the Clonmel Cup, with a potential final against old rivals Lutterworth. Both teams will be on the pitch to give their all for the honours.
Then on Sunday the main event. Newbold’s 1sts travel to Butts Stadium in Coventry to take on Sutton Coldfield in the final of the Warwickshire Cup. After knocking out Nuneaton in an earlier round, the Bold are going into the game as slight favourites, but it will by no means be an easy game for either side.
This weekend draws to a close another very successful Union season for Newbold, but with various Touch Rugby and Social Events going on through the summer, the club itself is becoming a truly 365 day a year club.
Everyone is of course welcome to drop by on Saturday to experience the England teams training and stay for what should be an interesting battle for the 2s at 3pm.
