On a wet Thursday, ‘The Close’ was brightened by the presence of France’s Under-19 rugby squad who had come looking for inspiration from the ‘home of the game’ ahead of their upcoming match against the England U19 team.
They trained vigorously for an hour on Bigside before enjoying a tour of the school and posing for photographs at the Webb Ellis plaque.
The visit ended with an exchange of souvenirs: the white shirt of the XV (embossed with the crests of each House) and a shield of the French Rugby Federation. The visitors left ’very impressed’ and looked forward to returning soon.
