Numbers good for early pre-season
Rugby Lions began pre-season training for their return to league status on Tuesday at the AEI ground on Hillmorton Road.
The three new coaches, Rob Walton, Rob Dignum and Ian Renard will have been pleased to have seen a large group of players attending so early in the summer – it looked a bigger group of players than would turn up in July in some previous seasons – and they were put through a range of activities aimed at developing strength and skills as well as having a good run out with ball in hand.
The group were made up of experienced players and a strong showing of Colts and in an adjacent area the Rugby Fiery Felions, the younger ladies version of the Rugby Lionesses were also going through their paces.
Watching on were a number of familiar faces such as Rugby Lions legends Eddie Saunders and Neil Mapletoft.
The club will still give a warm welcome to more players who want to get involved and become part of a very important season for Rugby Lions as they begin the journey to find their sustainable level of rugby in the league pyramid and also fulfil fixtures at Colts and ladies levels.
